Opened to visitors in August 2003 the Cave of the Fig is considered as one of the most beautiful and important caves in Sardinia . The lenght of the cave know till now is 1800 metres , but some parts of it are still being explorer.
The cave has a great importance for the concretionary aspect as well the faunistic aspect.
It was, infact, inside the Cave of the Fig that Padre Furreddu, one of the founders of the Sardinia speleology, studied the “monk seal” (Monachus monachus), living side by side with the mammal for days and nights. Some mysteries about the ancient inhabitant of the Mediterraneo were revealed to scientific studies.
We wait for you!!!
Speleological Society of Baunei The cave entrance is situaded 10 metres above the sea level along the extraordinary calcareous wall of the Gulf of Orosei . Footbridges placed over the fossil bed of an ancient stream allow the visitors to walk easily and absolutely safely.
